modern day
afternoon 3
outside in the yard
frustrated
popped football
red, flushed, fighting tears
go back to the house to find a pump or throw away the ball
"Robert. You always ruin things."
Robert pedaled away quickly, but Jacob still managed to catch a glimpse of the culprit. Walking toward the stop sign at the corner, Jacob went to pick up the football the Robert's baseball bat popped. Jacob had already had a long day at school. He earned a poor grade on the spelling test he had forgotten about, and his best friend Chip got upset with him at lunch. His birthday football being ruined pushed him over the edge. Face flushed and fighting back tears, the young boy burst. He had to speak up.
"Robert. You always ruin things!" Robert sat there and said "I can't help that I am clumsy!" Finally Jacobs mom saw how ugly Jacob was being to his friend. "Now, Jacob I have raised you better than that. Your frindship with robert is worth more than that football. Give him a hug and tell him you are sorry."
